Western Union Money Transfers

Send Money Internationally In Just A Few Clicks

When you need to send money abroad from Canada, Western Union® Money Transfers via Interac® e-Transfer are a safe and cost efficient way to get your money to the destination you need it to reach. Send a money transfer ($999 or less) to 200 plus countries. You’ll find the list of all destination countries available within your online banking.


Once your Western Union Money Transfer is complete, you’ll need to provide your recipient with their pickup requirements, which typically include:


  • Western Union Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN)
  • Amount Transferred
  • Security Question Answer (if one was required for your destination)
  • ID

Pickup locations will be provided to your recipient in the email notification they receive once the transfer is available to them. Transactions will expire if they are not collected within 60 days of the send date. The sender will receive an email notification from Western Union and will need to follow the prompts to cancel the transaction within a 20 day grace period. After the grace period, the sender will need to contact their branch or the Contact Centre at 1.866.923.4778 for assistance.


Need to cancel a transfer?

A Western Union Money Transfer can be cancelled up until the transfer has been paid to the recipient. Cancellations can be completed through the Transfer History on the Western Union Money Transfer page within a 20 day grace period. Once a transfer has been cancelled it can take up to 4 business days for the funds to be returned to your account from Western Union. Fees will not be refunded. Contact your branch or the Contact Centre for assistance.

It’s important that you keep yourself protected from fraud. A money transfer can be paid out to the recipient within a short time and after the money is paid, you may not be able to obtain a refund from Western Union, even if the transfer was the result of fraud.
